For Farmers
Less than 2 percent of our population are directly involved in production agriculture. Yet, people are becoming much more interested in how their food is produced. Probably the best way to better understand how food is produced is by visiting a farm. So we encourage dairy farm families to reach out to nearby schools and local communties to help them "discover dairy."
Plan a Farm Tour
Planning a farm tour can take a lot of preparation and thought. To help you plan your next farm tour, Discover Dairy offers the following resources.
- Farm Tour Guide & Checklist: A brief document highlighting the key points to consider when planning your farm tour.
- Pre-Tour Lesson: A lesson plan that ties into the "Discover Dairy and Animal Care" video to prepare early elementary students for the tour.
- Discover Dairy Activity Page: A black and white master that can be provided to the kids with fun dairy-focused activities.
- Tips from the Experts: A compilation of tips and ideas on planning tours from farm families who are experienced in hosting farm tours on their dairies.
