Fuel Up to Play 60 Game Day Activity

Thanksgiving often combines two favorite family past times — eating around the dinner table and watching the big game afterwards. The “Design Your Own Game Day Plan” is a short activity that would be great just before the break to get students excited for their Thanksgiving Day plans. It’s intended to teach kids how to be mindful in their movement and eating habits. It takes just 45 minutes of classroom time and could be something that you send home with them to track their habits during the holiday break. Midwest Dairy Association has a website filled with fun, easy-to-make recipes that you can replicate in the classroom or share with parents to make with kids over the break.  Browse their selection of simple, wholesome dairy recipes to fuel fun all day long. Get going with protein-packed yogurt, boost your energy with the 13 essential nutrients in milk, and wind down after a long day with real dairy products that taste good and are good for you. These recipes are designed to be made with an adult involved in the preparations.

November 21 Virtual Farm Tours

Virtual Tours on November 21st @ 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.

Science on the Farm — Geared for Grades 6 – 12

This tour is a deeper look into a specific area of each farm designed for students in Grades 6-12 that will cover one or two locations on the farm covering that area in detail. These tours will often feature a specialist along with the farmer such as veterinarians, nutritionists, or environmental scientists. While exploring this area of the farm, the tour guide incorporates key curricula from our free lesson plans that meet classroom standards. Students will get a closer look at how farms use technology and experts to provide the highest care for animals and land.

This tour is a general Virtual Farm Tour designed for students in Pre-K – Grade 5 that covers the three primary areas of the farm: where the calves live, where the cows live, and where the cows are milked. While exploring these areas of the farm, the tour guide also incorporates key curricula from our free lesson plans. Students will get an overview of where their favorite dairy foods come from while learning about how local farmers care for their animals and the land.

Classroom Snacking Ideas to Celebrate Halloween

Did you know that Halloween isn’t the only reason we have to celebrate in October? It’s also National Cheese Month! Cheese is a great source of calcium, fat, and protein. October 27 Virtual Tour Opportunity

A perfect way to introduce your adopted calf to your students, join American Dairy Association Mideast for a virtual tour in Ohio to learn all about calf care from birth to adolescence on October 27 at 10:00am EST. Calves grow up to become the cows that produce milk, so farmers are committed to getting them off to a healthy start. Students will see firsthand where the calves live, what they eat and how farmers keep them healthy.

During the tour, your class will be able to send questions to farmer Mackenzie to be answered live. As a special treat for Ohio and West Virginia classrooms, you’ll get to “meet” your adopted calf on the tour! Mocha, Latte, and Pumpkin Spice can’t wait to see you!
